AppleWorks 6 for Teachers: A Tutorial (WIN and MAC), 1/e

About AppleWorks and This Book

AppleWorks is integrated software that includes multiple application programs within one software. The programs in AppleWorks 6 are word processing, drawing, painting, spreadsheet, database, and presentation. AppleWorks 6 Macintosh version (6.0) was released first, and later AppleWorks 6.1 became available for both Macintosh and Windows. There is little difference between Macintosh versions 6.0 and 6.1. In addition, the compatibility between Macintosh and Windows versions (6.1) is seamless. They are virtually identical.

AppleWorks 6 for Teachers: A Tutorial is written for both AppleWorks 6 Macintosh (6.0 and 6.1) and Windows (6.1) users. The target audience is preservice and in-service teachers who are interested in improving their educational technology proficiency; however all those who would like to learn the application programs can benefit from this text.

Features of This Book

The organization of the text is designed to provide step-by-step tutorial lessons to enhance the hands-on skills of using the programs and to develop ideas for integrating the programs in teaching and learning. There are five chapters: Chapter 1, "Word Processing;" Chapter 2, "Drawing and Painting;" Chapter 3, "Spreadsheet;" Chapter 4, "Database;" and Chapter 5, "Slide Show, Presentation, and Web Page." Each chapter has the following components:

  • Hands-on Activities. Step-by-step hands-on tutorials to learn the program. There are three to four activities in each chapter.
  • Projects. Opportunities to apply what was covered in the hands-on activities. The sample projects can be found in the accompanying CD-ROM.
  • Applications. A brainstorming section for the application of the program in the classroom.
  • Summary. A summary of the concepts, activities, and applications covered in the chapter.
